The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (Hindi: भारतीय प्रबंधन संस्थान अहमदाबाद), better known as IIM Ahmedabad or simply IIM-A, is a business school located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is the second Indian Institute of Management (IIM) to be established, after IIM Calcutta, in 1961.[1]

IIM-A was the second IIM to be set up, on December 16, 1961.[1] Noted scientist Vikram Sarabhai and other Ahmedabad-based industrialists played a major role in its creation. It also had collaboration with Harvard Business School during its initial period.[2]

IIM-A is the only Indian institute listed by The Economist on its 2010 Full time MBA ranking, at #85.[8] In the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings 2011 it was ranked #11.[9] In India, it was ranked #3 by the Business Today 50 best business schools of 2011[5] and first by the Hindustan Times India's top 50 business schools of 2011[6] and by the 2011 edition of CNBC-TV18's The A List of B-Schools.[7] The Post Graduate Program in Agribusiness Management was ranked first (globally) by Eduniversal, in the field of "Agribusiness / Food Industry Management".[10]
The Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship was setup the institute with support from the Government of Gujarat and Department of Science and Technology to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in India.
The IIM is spread over lush greenery in Vastrapur and was designed by the American architect Louis Kahn.It has two campuses, the "Heritage Campus" and the "New Campus", joined by an underground gallery. Together, they cover more than 100 acres (40 ha).[11] The new campus has two major sections: One section caters to the needs of PGP, PGP-ABM and FPM courses, the other section is referred to as International Management Development Centre.
Alumni of IIM-A include international figures such as Raghuram Rajan, Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (2003–2007),Chetan Bhagat, Indian novelist and current Eric J. Gleacher Distinguished Service Professor of Finance, University of Chicago Booth School of Business[12] and Ajaypal Singh Banga, Chief Operating Officer, Mastercard and former Chief Operating Officer Citi North America.[13]
Student events include Confluence, an annual business summit organized in the month of November,[14] and ConneXion, an annual event organized by the alumni cell to drive industry interaction with academia.[15] Other events include Chaos, an annual culfest amd Insight, a market research event.
